Effects of shrub encroachment on soil aggregates and organic carbon vary in different grasslands in Inner Mongolia, China

چکیده
Widespread shrub encroachment in grasslands can lead to changes soil aggregates and organic carbon (SOC), especially deep soils. Soil physicochemically protect SOC thus affect sequestration. Characterizing the their associated with is critical for evaluating ecological consequences of different grasslands. In this study, we investigated various sizes at maximum depths 5 m patches neighboring grass matrix two types (desert typical) Inner Mongolia, China. The mean weight diameter (MWD) was similar between both However, proportion each aggregate size fraction whole significantly lower than that desert grasslands, while there no significant difference typical addition, content greater layers (>50 cm) but topsoil (0–10 cm depth) all Our results suggest effects on vary grassland types. study also it necessary determine structure its relation accurately predict dynamics encroachment.

Effects of shrub encroachment on soil organic carbon in global grasslands
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of shrub encroachment on soil organic carbon (SOC) content at broad scales and its controls. We conducted a meta-analysis using paired control data of shrub-encroached grassland (SEG) vs. non-SEG collected from 142 studies worldwide. SOC contents (0-50 cm) were altered by shrub encroachment, with changes ranging from -50% to + 300%, with an effect size of...

Effects of grassland conversion to croplands on soil organic carbon in the temperate Inner Mongolia.
This study investigated the effects of grassland conversion to croplands on soil organic carbon (SOC) in a typical grassland-dominated basin of the Inner Mongolia using direct field samplings. The results indicated that SOC contents decreased usually with increasing soil depth, with significant differences between the upper horizons (0-30cm) and the underlying horizons (30-100cm). Also, SOC den...
متن کاملShrub encroachment can reverse desertification in semi-arid Mediterranean grasslands.
The worldwide phenomenon of shrub encroachment in grass-dominated dryland ecosystems is commonly associated with desertification. Studies of the purported desertification effects associated with shrub encroachment are often restricted to relatively few study areas, and document a narrow range of possible impacts upon biota and ecosystem processes. We conducted a study in degraded Mediterranean ...
متن کاملShrub encroachment does not reduce the activity of some soil enzymes in Mediterranean semiarid grasslands
Shrub encroachment is a worldwide phenomenon with implications for desertification and global change. We evaluated its effects on the activities of urease, phosphatase and b-glucosidase in Mediterranean semiarid grasslands dominated by Stipa tenacissima by sampling 12 sites with and without resprouting shrubs along a climatic gradient. The presence of shrubs affected the evaluated enzymes at di...
